Interval-Dismantling for Lattices
Dismantling allows for the removal of elements of a set, or in our case
lattice, without disturbing the remaining structure. In this paper we have
extended the notion of dismantling by single elements to the dismantling by
intervals in a lattice. We utilize theory from Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) to
show that lattices dismantled by intervals correspond to closed subrelations in
the respective formal context, and that there exists a unique kernel with
respect to dismantling by intervals. Furthermore, we show that dismantling
intervals can be identified directly in the formal context utilizing a
characterization via arrow relations and provide an algorithm to compute all
dismantling intervals.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, 1 algorith
Searching for eV-scale sterile neutrinos with eight years of atmospheric neutrinos at the IceCube neutrino telescope
We report in detail on searches for eV-scale sterile neutrinos, in the
context of a 3+1 model, using eight years of data from the IceCube neutrino
telescope. By analyzing the reconstructed energies and zenith angles of 305,735
atmospheric and events we construct confidence
intervals in two analysis spaces: vs.
under the conservative assumption ; and
vs. given sufficiently large that
fast oscillation features are unresolvable. Detailed discussions of the event
selection, systematic uncertainties, and fitting procedures are presented. No
strong evidence for sterile neutrinos is found, and the best-fit likelihood is
consistent with the no sterile neutrino hypothesis with a p-value of 8\% in the
first analysis space and 19\% in the second.Comment: This long-form paper is a companion to the letter "An eV-scale
sterile neutrino search using eight years of atmospheric muon neutrino data
from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory". v2: update other experiments contours

Attribute Exploration with Multiple Contradicting Partial Experts
Attribute exploration is a method from Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) that
helps a domain expert discover structural dependencies in knowledge domains
which can be represented as formal contexts (cross tables of objects and
attributes). In this paper we present an extension of attribute exploration
that allows for a group of domain experts and explores their shared views. Each
expert has their own view of the domain and the views of multiple experts may
contain contradicting information.Comment: 22 pages (14 pages + 8 pages appendix
Genetic Predisposition to Neurological Complications in Patients with COVID-19
Several studies have identified rare and common genetic variants associated with severe COVID-19, but no study has reported genetic determinants as predisposition factors for neurological complications. In this report, we identified rare/unique structural variants (SVs) implicated in neurological functions in two individuals with neurological manifestations of COVID-19. This report highlights the possible genetic link to the neurological symptoms with COVID-19 and calls for a collective effort to study these cohorts for a possible genetic linkage
Cosmic ray spectrum from 250\ua0TeV to 10\ua0PeV using IceTop
We report here an extension of the measurement of the all-particle cosmic-ray spectrum with IceTop to lower energy. The new measurement gives full coverage of the knee region of the spectrum and reduces the gap in energy between previous IceTop and direct measurements. With a new trigger that selects events in closely spaced detectors in the center of the array, the IceTop energy threshold is lowered by almost an order of magnitude below its previous threshold of 2 PeV. In this paper we explain how the new trigger is implemented, and we describe the new machine-learning method developed to deal with events with very few detectors hit. We compare the results with previous measurements by IceTop and others that overlap at higher energy and with HAWC and Tibet in the 100 TeV range
